Working as an intern for MYK Websites for the past three months has allowed me to explore many different aspects of the digital marketing industry. From social media marketing to website development, the program has allowed my interest in the field to grow. The three main take-aways I can identify thus far are as follows.
1. I have learned how to operate WordPress:
Coming from a background with very little technical knowledge you could imagine how nervous I was to begin developing websites. Though I knew what a good website entailed, I had little clue of how exactly to create what I envisioned; however, once I actually began working with WordPress I realized how practical the process was. After exploring the site and the effects offered, I found creating a website wasn’t as difficult as I thought. As an effective website platform is essential for a successful start-up in today’s digital marketing industry, I’m glad I’ve been given the opportunity to get comfortable with WordPress.
2. I have learned how to create business profiles on social media platforms:
Though I enjoy using social media, I considered myself an average user as I had never explored all the sites have to offer. Despite my interest in start-ups aesthetically pleasing Instagram feeds, I never considered what the creation of a business profile was like. With this internship, I have been given the chance to work on the Facebook and Instagram pages for MYK Websites. I have been able to get a behind the scenes look at exactly what it’s like to create business profiles. As the digital marketing industry continuously proves successful, working on MYK’s online platform has provided me with a useful skillset.
3. I have worked with clients to satisfy their needs:
As an intern, I’ve been given the change to work on a few projects that require me to interact with Michael’s clients to create websites that will suit their wants and needs. At first, the process of working with clients put a lot of pressure on me. The thought that something as important as a webpage was going to essentially depend on my work was overwhelming. However, once I began I realized I was capable of a lot more than I had thought. I didn’t think it would be possible to exercise my creative ability while working so closely with clients, but I realized that wasn’t the reality. I was able to effectively create websites that met clients needs and allowed me to add my own flare.
Having completed half of the internship program I can say that I’ve found a new interest and possible career path. I look forward to the next three months of exploring the digital marketing industry with MYK Websites.
